Masseria Le Taverne: Restyling and Transformation into Luxury

The Masseria Le Taverne, which once belonged to the family of Umberto Veronesi, is now under the ownership of a group that includes Louis Vuitton. This transformation marks a new chapter for the property, which is set to become a symbol of high-end luxury in Puglia.

The White City, or rather Ostuni, is increasingly becoming a hub for luxury experiences. Already renowned for its charm and cultural heritage, it is now a coveted destination for high-level hospitality. Following the addition of the Four Seasons property, another significant name has entered the scene: Belmond, a company that is part of LVMH (owner of Louis Vuitton), has acquired Masseria Le Taverne. This enchanting 17th-century structure once belonged to the family of Umberto Veronesi, the esteemed oncologist who passed away in 2016.

For nearly two decades, Giovanni, Silvia, and their daughter Giulia Veronesi managed the estate with passion and dedication, preserving its historical essence while embracing its potential.

A Treasure of Apulian Architecture

Masseria Le Taverne is an extraordinary example of Apulian architecture, characterized by its distinctive whitewashed walls—a result of lime milk—set against the vibrant green backdrop of an estate featuring approximately thirty hectares of ancient olive groves.

The general layout, dating back to the 17th century, revolves around a central courtyard dominated by the facade of the main building, known as “the Villa,” the oldest part of the masseria. Highlights of the property include a fascinating underground oil mill, a relic of its agricultural past that remained active until the mid-20th century, and an intimate chapel that adds to its historical charm. The numerous rooms are adorned with cross vaults, barrel vaults, and walls of stone or tuff, making it a true architectural gem.

A New Era of Luxury

Following an extensive restyling operation, Masseria Le Taverne is set to become an ultra-luxurious resort located on the coast, between Rosa Marina and Pilone, amidst the Plain of Millenary Olives. This new venture promises to rival other iconic destinations such as the renowned Borgo Egnazia in Savelletri di Fasano, which opened in 2010 and draws inspiration from traditional Apulian villages in its design.
