Wines for wedding. Among the many elements to be considered in order to organize a wedding reception in Apulia, one of them that must not be missing is wine, as well as delicious and tasty dishes, which can amaze the taste buds of the guests.

Wine, however, represents that “extra touch”, and not only it can be very elegant to be served, but it can also enrich the menu itself. Among the most common white wines, which are usually present in a wedding buffet, can be mentioned Chardonnay, a Roero Arneis, but not only.

It is good to know also the other types of wine that can be part of your banquet. In this way you will be able to choose the one that best suits your tastes and also succeed in surprising your guests.

Besides this, it will also be necessary to distinguish a white wine suitable for the aperitif, and then opt for another type, maybe a red one, which will better match with lunch or dinner.

Wedding reception and wines: choosing the right ones

In order to make your wedding banquet special, you will have to think not only about decorations, special dishes, but also about good Apulian wine. You will have to choose a suitable one for the moment of the aperitif, and preferably adopt a different one for lunch or dinner as well.

Of course, the presence of the beverage in question is not mandatory but strongly suggested. This is because wine usually gives a better idea of refinement and moreover a few sips can help to change the taste of a dish, making it better and more special.

It should also be noticed that wine, both red and white, will not be missing especially in two cases: in case you chose to celebrate your wedding in a vineyard or in case you want to celebrate it in the countryside.

In both situations, in fact, you will be completely immersed in nature and you should not forget to honor the products of the land, including the beverage in question.

In the first case, you can also ask the owners of the wine cellar to have a tasting course where your guests can also participate to and maybe have a sort of aperitif where they can have different appetizers, while sipping different types of wine.

Wine for Aperitifs

Many wedding banquets choose to accompany the aperitif with a crisp white wine, in order to help the digestion of the first delicacies served.

As it is a sort of “welcome” for the guests, it will be necessary to avoid wines that can be heavy, it will be better to choose one that can be well matched with the so called “fingerfood”. This term is used to indicate those dishes which are so small that they can be contained in half hand, also known as “samples”.

Alternatively, you could also opt for a prosecco, but the latter is pretty common. If you want to make a difference and prefer something special, go for a Salice Salentino Bianco DOC, which is perfect to be matched with small appetizers or however with light preparations, mainly based on vegetables or even fish.

However, in case you would like a more sparkling beverage, you can choose for the Galà Vino Frizzante Bianco IGT, or even a Briosé – IGP SALENTO, as well as an even more suitable wine: Vermentino – IGP SALENTO.

These are not expensive options, however they can be perfect for any kind of aperitif. It does not matter whether it is a seafood menu or a meat menu, or even a vegetarian one: the four wines mentioned above will be perfect both in the one and in the other cases.

The Right Wines for Wedding Lunches and Dinners in Apulia

As for the choice of the right wine to be served during the course of a wedding lunch or dinner, in order not to make mistakes, it is possible to follow a pretty common practice, which is used in most of the cases.

It is about having a white wine served during appetizers as well as during the consumption of first courses, and then choose to have a red wine served with the second course. As for the first course, either a Fiano di Puglia IGP or a Verdeca Bianco Salento IGT can be served. In case the reception takes place during warm months, it can also be chosen rose wines.

As for the choice of red wines, Primitivo di Manduria DOP can be a very appropriate type for second courses and, among other things, it does not have high costs. Another one is Salento Malvasia Nera IGT as well, but in case the wedding takes place during winter months, even a Negramaro or a Nero di Troia can be good.

The two types of matching

Remember that in order to choose the right wines for your wedding banquet, you can follow one of the two existing lines: one is about affinity and the other one is about contrast. As for the first one, the choice of wine is done in order to go hand in hand with the kind of taste the dishes can offer. On the contrary, the second line tries to create a contrast.

This means that in case at that moment a food is being served which can cause a certain salivation, because it is considered as “fat”, in that case it will be possible to serve a wine which can “dry” this sensation.

Besides this, you should never forget about the number of bottles, a subject that deserves a paragraph of its own.

In this case you should only think about the rule of affinity and never about the rule of contrast. In fact, the important thing is that when the wedding cake is served, it is always a sweet beverage, which often consists, more than a real wine, in a sparkling wine or in a champagne.

As for the number of bottles to be served on the table, it can be based on one bottle for every 4-5 people, for the aperitif, whereas it can be based on one bottle for every 8-10 people, for lunch or dinner.

As we have seen, the wines for wedding banquet from which to choose are many, and even though you will have to get carried away by your tastes, you should not forget to follow either the rule of affinity or the rule of contrast.
